Care & Maintenance
Proper care helps preserve the appearance, performance, and longevity of your Modtrim furniture. Always follow any product-specific instructions provided with your order.
Routine Cleaning
- Dust regularly with a clean, soft, dry microfiber cloth.
- For general cleaning, lightly dampen a soft cloth with water and wipe in the direction of the wood grain.
- Dry the surface immediately with a separate clean cloth.
- For stubborn marks, use a small amount of mild, pH-neutral soap diluted in water.
- Test any cleaning product on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire surface.
Do not saturate the surface or allow water to collect along edges, seams, joints, hardware, or mounting points.
Products to Avoid
Do not use:
- Abrasive pads, sponges, brushes, or powders;
- Bleach, ammonia, acetone, alcohol, or harsh chemical cleaners;
- Furniture polish containing silicone or wax;
- Oil-based products unless specifically approved by Modtrim;
- Steam cleaners or excessive water; or
- Sharp tools that may scratch or damage the finish.
These products may discolor, scratch, soften, cloud, or otherwise damage the surface.
Spills and Moisture
Wipe spills immediately using a soft, absorbent cloth. Prolonged exposure to water or other liquids can cause staining, swelling, warping, delamination, or finish damage.
Use coasters, trays, or protective mats beneath beverages, plants, diffusers, and other items that may release moisture. Do not place wet or damp objects directly on the furniture.
Heat and Sunlight
Keep furniture away from radiators, fireplaces, heating vents, and other sources of excessive heat. Use protective pads beneath hot objects.
Whenever possible, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Sunlight and heat may cause natural fading, darkening, drying, or color changes over time.
Humidity and Indoor Conditions
Modtrim products are intended for normal indoor residential use unless otherwise specified.
Wood and wood-based materials naturally respond to changes in temperature and humidity. Maintain reasonably stable indoor conditions and avoid excessive moisture, dryness, or sudden environmental changes.
Do not use or store the furniture outdoors or in bathrooms, unfinished basements, garages, or other damp or uncontrolled environments unless the product is specifically approved for that location.
Protecting Surfaces
- Use coasters, placemats, and protective pads when appropriate.
- Do not drag objects across finished surfaces.
- Avoid placing sharp, rough, wet, hot, or rubber-backed objects directly on the furniture.
- Move decorative items periodically to help minimize uneven exposure to light.
Drawers, Doors, Shelves, and Hardware
Operate drawers and doors gently and avoid forcing them beyond their normal range of movement.
Distribute weight evenly and do not exceed any load limits provided with the product. Do not sit, stand, climb, or hang on shelves, drawers, cabinets, or other furniture components.
Periodically inspect mounting hardware, brackets, fasteners, drawer slides, and hinges. If anything becomes loose, stop using the affected component until it has been properly adjusted or secured.
Do not modify, drill into, relocate, or repair the product without appropriate instructions or professional assistance.
Moving or Reinstalling Furniture
Remove all contents before moving, adjusting, or reinstalling furniture. Do not drag furniture or use shelves, drawers, doors, or hardware as lifting points.
Wall-mounted and modular components should be removed, moved, and reinstalled by a qualified person following Modtrim’s installation instructions. The installer is responsible for confirming that the wall, mounting surface, and fasteners are suitable for the intended installation and load.
Natural Material Changes
Wood and veneer naturally vary in grain, texture, tone, and color. Exposure to air and light may gradually change their appearance. These variations and changes are normal characteristics of natural materials and are not defects.
Damage or Service
If you notice loose hardware, movement, cracking, swelling, finish separation, or another concern, discontinue use of the affected component and contact Modtrim before attempting a repair.
Unauthorized repairs, refinishing, alterations, improper cleaning, or failure to follow these care instructions may affect warranty coverage.
